So uh…

5 Jan

yeah, it’s been kinda crowded around here huh.

Do me a favour. Tell me something new and awesome in your life. Be it a new man or a new favorite song. Distract me, dazzle me with the awesomeness you’re injecting into 2009.

oooh! And suggest a movie I should buy. I have to exchange my copy of The Dark Knight. (We had two-that’s all. The movie rocks. Don’t eat me.)

I really liked Mama Mia, which we bought this Christmas. I was singing and dancing along!

ohh we finally watched the dark knight last night. It was super awesome. I wish I could tell you something cool that didn’t revolve around my offspring.

kids are fine if you use smiley faces or boobs.

  4. Hannah January 5, 2009 at 9:33 pm #

My sister gave me the remastered version of Nightmare Before Christmas – that’s a movie that gets better every time I see it.

But since The Dark Knight was my favourite movie of ’08, I’m fresh out of ideas.

Let’s see, something different… next time you’re in Halifax, we are going to my new favourite pub, where the sassy and sarcastic bartender lady concocts a fabulous espresso martini. We’ll round up Kate too, and the three of us can be drunk AND wired. It will be most excellent.

    XO

You like dark humour: the film for you is Delicatessen: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101700/

I LOVE that movie but can never find it in stores! That and The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (Helen Mirren SWOON!)

Swears. Want both BADLY. That musical interlude banging on stuff…sigh…..

  7. crabbykate January 5, 2009 at 9:45 pm #

ok here we go, lady. some distraction:

I am very much into Regina Spektor these days. Particularly into this song:

I also very much love Jenny Lewis, and her song “You Are What You Love” and put it on when I feel like shit.

    check it out live here:

Hope that helps. Fuck the self-righteousness of last night. For real.

  8. crabbykate January 5, 2009 at 9:49 pm #

also? You might have already seen this one thousand years ago, but I still sometimes pull up this page to make myself laugh.

Samson, Apres Moi, Chemo Limo and Ode to Divorce are my FAVORITES from her. Plus, if you learn the Russian part in Apres Moi, people think you’re awesome.

Jenny lewis always seemed a but poppy for me, but I’ll try. Thanks!

I know that everyone in the world has read it, but I only recently crawled out from under a rock and discovered Fuck You, Penguin. http://fuckyoupenguin.blogspot.com/

This blog is also very funny: http://imsureitisfine.blogspot.com/
She occasionally uses the sarcasm, though, and I don’t think I’ve even once seen her mitigate it with emoticons. Tread carefully.

    And there’s always Mahna mahna:

And I plan to make my own personal 2009 the most awesome year in the history of ever. Yes, indeed, I do.

Did I ever tell you that it is my grand plan to become an Officer in the military? Did you just faint?

So, basically because I can’t make a living with my business, and I want to, I dunno, do stuff with my kids, I have to get serious about making money. Long term. I know what I’m getting into. Married to it forever, lived with it in the family. It seems to run in the blood. My only problem currently is the large amount of flab around me. It must leave.

As an officer I’ll be constantly learning new things. I thought about getting my masters, but I don’t really want to “slot” myself into one career path. Sometimes I get really sick of psychology. Too much BS to deal with in getting registered, working with people. Meh. Logistics officers, get experience in several different careers, until they decide to “specialize”. In the meantime I get to play with HR, supply chain management, transport, administration, finance and I can’t remember the rest. I could jump from place to place to place and keep learning till my brain falls out.

PLUS the amount of holidays they get is obscene. AND they pay me to work out. Seriously. Paid to go play. Niiiicceee. Once I get this lard off my arse, I can hopefully get in. I have a lot going for me. My age, degree, history and job experience. The only thing blocking me is the fat.

As for the business. It’s a great part time income. I can push it or not. It can be something that I can pick up down the road again, if need be.

I just made 4 batches of soap tonight, one is a Sandalwood vanilla with crushed sandalwood. that is the soap that I’m donating to Work for Women.com Not sure what I’ve gotten myself into here. I have intense fears that I will end up doing nothing but making soap for them. I also made a pine tar soap that is really really good for psoriasis and eczema. It stinks to high heaven. Seriously, gaggy. But its therapeutic, like buckleys. Smells gross, but it works! Maybe I’ll call it “Stinky Cure”. LOL!

I decided to send Emily to nursery school. Those two days per week I’ll be at the gym for 2.5 hours. I will go, and like it. Then die the next day i;m sure.

I bought “My fitness coach” and did 30 minutes of aerobics. I like aerobics however I am not coordinated, so doing it in the privacy of my living room is very nice.

Um. That’s all I got! You asked for it!

They may even carry it in their spa in Sri Lanka. Heh. A girl can dream right?

Thordora: That Sandalwood sounds AWESOME. And yes, dream!

Well, I found a new blog today… yours. If it weren’t for the kerfuffle, I wouldn’t have.

Also… my kids were back in school today: AWESOME!

Superlagirl: I was under that rock with you, I’d never heard of Fuck You, Penguin. I just snorted tea out my nose.

We are taking Kieran for a psych eval tomorrow. We think he’s ODD. I feel like a massive failure, but at least we are pursuing diagnoses and treatment (which is almost always behavioural).

On the happier side of what’s new: I have allowed Sunkist to purchase a small piece of the bottom left side of my soul. They are flying me and a bunch of other journalists and bloggers down to Ojai California (Oprah lives there, apparently) to stay at a cool resort, learn about lemons and tour a grove. I’m pretty excited. You may see a lot of lemon in my upcoming recipes 🙂 But lemons are good! And so is a free mini-vacay to SoCal! Plus blogging material.

Mama Mia good chick movie. I have been singing it for days now. Do you ever listen to the Gourds? They have a site – check it out. They are out of Texas. I read you every day and support you. Thanks for your daily honesty.

  17. tulip January 5, 2009 at 11:40 pm #

Hey girl! I only come out and post once the dust clears! 😉
My 2009 is rocking my socks so far and my daughter goes back to school tomorrow thank GOD. Big hugs to you for the new year girl. You are surviving and that’s a hell of a big thing. 🙂

  18. March January 5, 2009 at 11:53 pm #

don’t have a movie to suggest… have not seen that many lately.

    something to amuse you?
we rented Mamma Mia a few nights ago, the hubs was all “I rented it for you, it’s a total chick flick and I’m too macho to watch this but I’ll bear it because of you”.
guess who was singing along to every single freaking song and dancing to it with his head? yes, my very macho military hubs… it was hysterical.

don’t tell him I told you, ok?

we’ve been caught up doing paperwork for the stupid Italian visa (and yes stupid cause you would not believe the amount of paperwork we had to submit along with the application), so I had not been able to catch up… I’m so sorry for what happened. some people are just plain stupid. it gave me shivers to think of the cops coming over to your place. and makes me so mad.

we’re in pre-packing mode, we’ll be homeless again at the end of the month, sigh. part of me can’t wait to be in Italy so we don’t have to move again in 3 yrs, and part of me doesn’t want to move as I’m so in love with Bremerton.

oh and we’re snowed in again! I know this is not impressive in your side of the world, but apparently it does not happen that often in Washington State… it’s beautiful but rather cold…

  19. Alphabetfiend January 6, 2009 at 12:32 am #

I just watched the doc “Dear Zachary” last night which was amazing but hard. I was in tears for two hours and restless afterwards. Then today I found this blog and the story of all that chaos. Can’t help but wonder how we’re missing the most obvious of dangers while pointing fingers at people like you. What’s wrong with the world? jeez. Anyway, the movie was intense and well-done and I suggest it to any and all so I won’t ruin it by revealing anything more. It’s been playing on MSNBC.

  20. Gabriel... January 6, 2009 at 12:41 am #

    This afternoon I picked up:

    1. The Wild Bunch
    2. The Terminator (the original)
    3. se7en
    4. Alien (the first one)
    5. Pitch Black

I also grabbed, for $70, a new DVD player and a 5.1 surround sound system… which, as soon as I can figure out how it works and how to set it up to my PS3, means the downstairs neighbours should be moving out in two months.

  21. misspudding January 6, 2009 at 1:04 am #

Just found out about your blog/twitter drama. WTF?! God, when you were going through all of your bipolar drama, I sent tons of email (as did those of us, whom, uh, care?) but never thought about calling the cops or local authorities. This crap? I don’t even follow twitter so I have no clue, but seriously?! I think someone needed to feel important.

As for me, just found out my ma’s probably got some paranoid personality disorder, her uncle was schizophrenic and my cousin (all the same side of the family) is bipolar!!! Can you say wow!

Oh, and we’ve been crazy snowed in and then crazy sick. We’re still sick, I’m crabby, and I still don’t fucking care that it’s 2009. But, hey, Barack Obama will be our president in less than a month!!!

  22. SewDucky January 6, 2009 at 2:24 am #

Gone with the Wind. Nothing that happens is worse then Scarlett being a bitch and it’s great fun to watch it.

  23. bromac January 6, 2009 at 9:53 am #

My favorite movie of all time is Terms of Endearment. Good crying movie if you need to get out some emotion. AND, you can watch an imperfect mother at work. Because, apparently besides Tara, we are all bad mother’s sometimes. Doesn’t mean we don’t love our kids with everything we have, like Shirley McClain portrays so well in this movie.

As for music. Well, I don’t listen to the same type of music as you, but if you want something cleansing, humor me and listen to Tim McGraw’s “Let it go”. This song was immensly helpful several weeks ago when I was, in fact, trying to let go of major depression and insecurity.

  24. thordora January 6, 2009 at 10:04 am #

careful there, you just admitted to not being perfect!

Always meant to watch that movie….

  25. nylonthread January 6, 2009 at 10:16 am #

I kind of thought it was awesome to be interviewed (my DH, anyway) on a popular DC blog with photos taken and all, but all the rotten comments from a$$holes are getting me down. It still rocks, really! I just have to be better at ignoring jerks, because there are always jerks out there. My blog gets a fleeting mention! Here’s the post: http://tinyurl.com/8yadks

  26. Stephanie January 6, 2009 at 10:36 am #

Have you watched the Rutles? I just got an upgrade to DVD for Christmas. Funny stuff.

  27. antropologa January 6, 2009 at 10:37 am #

I’m leasing a horse! And maybe moving to Sweden! And my kid is sleeping until 8:30 AM!

  28. antropologa January 6, 2009 at 10:38 am #

Movies–I don’t know, but get something funny. Funny is good for you. Apparently just anticipating watching a funny movie is good for you.

  29. sweetsalty kate January 6, 2009 at 10:44 am #

Huh? What? Someone a while back said the words “drunk” and “Kate” in the same sentence and I just want to say UM. OKAY.

  30. thordora January 6, 2009 at 10:47 am #

I’m so down with that it isn’t even funny.

  31. Bon January 6, 2009 at 11:07 am #

this is very informative as i basically live under a rock recycling my old Bowie and Dylan tunes…and the “new” movie i bought myself for Christmas was the Sound of Music.

let me know when the drunk fest is planned…i can get my ass to Halifax.

  32. thordora January 6, 2009 at 11:17 am #

ooooh! You can drink now! SQUEE!

  33. Gwen January 6, 2009 at 11:22 am #

Did I tell you about the time my husband got lip cancer? Now that there is sexy AND exciting.

    Or …..

    Not.

Don’t let the bastards bring you down.

Also, maybe listen to the Clash for a bit. They’re good for getting some anger out.

(I can’t even comment on the recent drama because I am so very out of it. But from what I can figure out without too much sleuthing, I would totally have had your back. You betcha.)

  34. Cynthia Page January 6, 2009 at 11:59 am #

Religulous was highly entertaining. You can’t buy it yet, but I might be able to find a copy somewhere…

Also, starting this Thursday, I’ll be pawning my kid off on someone else 2 days a week and the gubmint is going to pay half 🙂

  35. Eden January 6, 2009 at 11:59 am #

I’ll take your extra Dark Knight! I need one for the bedroom! So I can have Christian Bale on all screens at once! Exclamation point!

Let’s see… good stuff… well… oh! I’m rereading “The Shining,” which is lots of fun. I need readers for my little horror story (if you want, lemme know; it’s about 10k) b/c the editor is calling for drafts. I’m in the middle of writing a torture scene in the book that has completely slipped through my fingers. Holden is not in day care today b/c he only goes MWF. We’re watching… SOO-PER-SPIIIES!

And that’s what you need. Watch Casino Royale for the 47th time. Or we could watch it together & Twitter about it! Um, well…

  36. daisybones January 6, 2009 at 2:07 pm #

Do you have Secretary or Stranger than Fiction? *Only* because times are hard, I’ll let you borrow my girlfriend:)

Newest movie you might dig I’ve seen lately is Teeth. Amazingly fabulous.

Soon, I will snap photos of my three new amazing dresses that look like handmade but are from Superstore Retail Hell. They are my best New Thing.

  37. Kimberly January 6, 2009 at 2:40 pm #

I have a boyfriend. How’s that for new and exciting? And I’m–get this–HAPPY.

  38. thordora January 6, 2009 at 2:42 pm #

NO!-and hey, will you be my troll hunter?

  39. B January 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm #

Here is something to believe in for 2009: love. I’ve been dating a guy for about four months and he told me that he loves me. No one has told me that since I got pregnant with my son four years ago. I’ve been loveless for four years and I didn’t even know how much it bothered me until I realized what I was missing.

    Seriously – love.

I’m also applying to graduate school and scared shitless about the entrance exam because I’m really horrible at standardized testing. I also think that it’s just a racket and that those with the most money and time to spend learning how to take the test do the best (all natural geniuses reading this rant can just be quiet for a bit).

Life is changing around me and I’m exhilarated and excited for the first time, in a long time.

  40. Aurelia January 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm #

I’m seriously considering throwing away all my bills and paperwork and seeing what happens, just because there is too much of it!

And hey, i just want to say that I’ve been reading you for a while, and I’m not sure if I ever delurked, but as a fellow mental health blogger/mom kind of blogger I am so in your corner. There have been many times when dark humour got me through. ((Hugs))

  41. Kimberly January 6, 2009 at 2:48 pm #

Yes. Seriously. You didn’t think that fancy dress on my FB was all for me, did you? 😉 I’ll give you a hint–he’s the Bananaman.

I would be honoured to be your troll hunter. I was serious about wanting Gabriel’s info.

(also? If I didn’t have a boyfriend(!) Gabriel is totally doing it for me in these comments)

Other good things: Buffy Season 8. The Stand in comics form (you want me to send?) The Dark Tower in comics form….

  42. thordora January 6, 2009 at 3:00 pm #

The new Wonder Woman arc is cool…..

head back to the last post, and enjoy.

  43. Mary-LUE January 6, 2009 at 3:56 pm #

Have you tried The Zero Effect with Bill Pullman? So funny… darker humor but not so dark, awesome soundtrack. I was recently reminded of it when someone was talking about Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (song on the soundtrack).

  44. ausxser January 6, 2009 at 5:13 pm #

I knitted my first pair of mittens 🙂

And I got “The Who” double dvd story for Christmas – it’s great.

I like period dramas when I want to get distracted – Jane Austen is my friend 🙂

oooh. I do kinda want to see that.

  49. dayatthebeach January 6, 2009 at 6:30 pm #

2008 was about moving back home, then moving again because of vermin, then moving again because the landlord foreclosed and didn’t tell us (all in 4 months), then getting married, then being pregnant, then not, then hearing that my teenage son had sex for the first time (at least he told us)… {sigh} I just want a quiet 2009. A beach in Mexico during February with very little clothing and a monstrous margarita. And my new hubby. Movie would be Across the Universe and fave music are the Weepies, Jane’s Addiction and Johnny Cash. You gotta smile listening to A Boy Named Sue.

  50. Snappymom (Christie) January 6, 2009 at 6:55 pm #

Old movie, but pretty good: Frailty. We loved it. It has, BIll Paxton and Matthew McConaughey…..Sorry about your Twitterdrama the other night, some people totally suck.

The first Dark Knight is better than the second (aside from Heath of course).

    hm. awesome? Music? um…..

sort of in a Dido, and old Neil Young phase these days…..

Go for a classic…The Hustler is my latest classic recommendation.

And as for awesomeness…well, yesterday the newspaper published my weekly on-line blog for their Mom2Mom site in the actual newspaper AND someone from my distant past found me through it. AND the 600 page book I have been editing for the last five months was finally published! AND my son did his own laundry the other night. Is that awesome enough?

  59. thordora January 7, 2009 at 10:28 am #

I think of all of that, the laundry would make me most happy. My youngest changes more than a pee happy Fergie.

I’m starting my second New Year with my new (and improved) husband, whom I married in October of 2007! Yeahhuh! I lost my first in October of 2003, when my daughters were 3 and 5.
Daughter the 1st (turns 11 on the 15th) now tells New Husband she loves him! Daughter the 2nd (turns 9 on the 13th) no longer rolls her eyes when he says it to her.
Daughter the 1st has survived 2 semesters in private university-prep school with straight A’s, even in foreign language.
I can’t help but add I will think twice before I tell the girls that if they don’t stop fighting I will slap them stupid 😉 I haven’t had to slap them stupid, because they stop fighting when I say that and both love getting that straight A trophy from school at the end of the year.

  61. thordora January 7, 2009 at 7:41 pm #

    Wow. That is awesome. 🙂

  62. Krista January 7, 2009 at 8:23 pm #

This is good for a giggle…………….

Let me set the stage: I am sitting in the cold garage cleaning years of dust off a used four-poster bed we just bought. Nearly 4 year old child announces that he needs to go poo-poo. I send him inside and tell him I’ll be in in a minute to check on him…………………about 1 minuite I hear the backyard door open, so I go to investigate. On my way through the house I check the 3 potties to assertain where he is. (Forgot to mention he is NOT suppose to go in the backyard alone since we have and ingound pool.) I get to the back door, open it and do not see the child. Call child’s name repeatedly. Said child appears from side of house with his pants and underwear around his ankles. When quizzed on why his pants were dow I am informed that he went poo-poo. I asked “WHY” and he say……….”because this is how dogs and kitties do.”

even at this age they are sometimes more like a little animal than a person.
