We decided to go downtown to experience some good Canada day fun, but in usual Canadian fashion, it rained, as it does most Canada Day’s (and Labour Day’s)
During the first rain delay, we decided to go to one of my most favorite restaurants, the local thai place. Which, with small children who aren’t used to behaving in restaurants, can be a joy. The food rocked my mouth as usual, but I was eating too fast to notice.
Rosalyn enjoyed the skewers and the fake flowers however. Vivian enjoyed seeing how far she could drive her mother. The waitress told me I was lucky I could take my kids there since most kids don’t like their food. Like that matters to kids who, if the decide not to, won’t eat anything.
We ventured out again after picking vermicelli off everything, seeing how far we could get before it rained again. Turns out that isn’t very far at all! But the girls got balloon animals that Rosalyn didn’t want and Vivian made explode, Vivian beat some kids up in a bouncy castle, had some older kid yell at her for wacking them with balloons and got a puppy painted on her face.
Why do puppies always end up looking like strung out rabbits when painted on faces?
Rosalyn was happy just to maintain control of the umbrella throughout. There’s nothing like being denied cover by a 2 year old to make you humble.
So we missed all the fun stuff like Chinese dancers and music that we really wanted to see. Vivian got her first experience in an outhouse which thankfully wasn’t as smelly as I figured, but we still had to talk about the stuff IN the toilet.
Then it REALLY started to pour, so we called a cab and ran home like sissies.
love Ros’ umbrella face. 🙂
we’re up north of you this weekend, in scenic smelterville Belledune…it was cookín’ hot at the wee Canada Day parade. and O petted a horse.
but we, his crappy parents, forgot the camera.
jesus christ I’m fat.
Happy Canada Day… 140 and we barely look 50.
Happy Canada Day. Sorry about the crap weather. If it’s any comfort, we are having it (crap weather, not Canada Day) here in Europe too. It is mizz-erable.
Like your blog’s new look.
aww, sorry about the weather, dudes.
not much better in my part of the world, after a really warm and dry april summer has decided to take a time out in germany. oh, i just see charlotte is complaining, too.
thor, i can’t get over how much the girls look like you. rosalyn with the umbrella looks like she had fun despite of the weather – or maybe because of the weather, so she could deny you all the use of the umbrella.
is that your gut sticking into the puppy-painting picture, mogo? don’t worry, i’ve seen a lot worse.
🙂
not my gut! That’s guy gut! (and I would NOT be wearing a Shazaam! shirt) And Mogo, it isn’t that bad,,,
Bon, I don’t even know where the hell that is.
I’m glad Germany is suffering in crap weather as well. What’s the German equivalent of Canada Day?
read again, thor! i asked mogo if that was his gut.i wondered about his “jesus christ i’m fat” comment and had a look at the pictures if i could spot him anywhere. i thought he could only be the guy in the shazaam shirt. and, seriously, it’s not that bad.
there is no real equivalent to canada day, but we have the “tag der deutschen einheit”, german unity day, which “celebrates” the reunification of east and west germany in 1990. it is on october 3rd, which is pretty stupid because there’s usually shit weather there and not much you can do for fun. there’s no parades or flag-waving or something, it’s just a lame holiday where people stay home and watch tv. bah.
sorry. Little sleep and headache and drugs not working make for DUMB ME. 🙂
Ah, lame holiday. We have plenty of those. Victoria Day (excuse to camp and drink) in May, Civic Holiday (excuse to camp and drink) in August…there are others.
Sounds like you guys made the best of it!!!
I was at work, wondering if the fireworks would actually happen that night. They didn’t. So I guess we’ll watch ’em tonight, from the office windows. lol
It was fun. We haven’t been able to do “family” stuff together before, so it’s nice to start.
Had to ride home in the cab WITHOUT car seats-feeling guilt, but the other option was a long walk home in the rain and chancing pneumonia so….
Cool new design! Sorry your Canada Day was rained out, because you’re one of my favourite Canadians (look, I even spelled favourite with a ‘u’ for you! making my spell-check angry!)
