Spring Morning

2 Jun

Windy but sunny, we ventured out, to tire out Rosalyn, and hang out the day before I leave for Nashvegas.

Rosalyn isn’t quite sure about all this just yet.

Vivian goes up the big slide, spurred on by the fact that her sister, her little sister, didn’t bat an eye-showed no fear, and conquered it. Sadly, this doesn’t help Vivian overcome her inherent fear of danger or heights or just plain trying something new. It’s funny-one daughter cannot help but taste everything life brings, the other seems almost afraid of it. It’s like I’ve birthed the two sides of my nature in separate people.

Rosalyn is never scared-she runs for the next challenge. It’s incredible to watch, to try and remember a time when nothing did scare me. I’m always trying to reclaim it. When do we lose it?

Rosalyn hurdles down the slide, smiling at the end, even when she manages a face plant. She climbs up again, slips, falls down a few steps. She cries, then sucks it up, and tries again.

Is it strange to feel inspired by a 2 year old?

Later, we’ll wander down the trail next to the stream behind my house, the one that seems to crawl out of some English fairy tale. I keep expecting to see someone on a lazy boat float by.

The trees are glowing green, the flowers fragrant and blossomed, the air clean, crisp with spring winds. I stare around me, and at my children, wondering where all the beauty was hiding.

I love the park when there’s a kid there B knows. It’s not so much fun when I’m the playmate.

I love the trees in our backyard. In winter, it looks like hell, but this time of year-it’s awesome.
