Britney Spears-Bald and Crazy?

18 Feb

baldy.jpg

Look at her eyes and tell me she isn’t manic. Tell me.

Is it attention, or is she as sick as she looks?

I don’t normally comment on celebrity crap since I don’t really care, but you can’t escape this “GASP! Shaved her head and OMFG! got a tattoo!” stuff that’s everywhere.

I can’t help but wonder though. Most bipolars go through manic periods where they are hypersexual, taking stupid risks, doing things that are relatively out of character.

I don’t care who you are. Marrying a walking vienna sausage like K-Fed is out of character. He’s a bloody troll.

She’s virtually ruined her career for a small time creep. She’s popped two kids out and divorced him. She’s been flashing her cooch at cameras, and now shaves her head, in public.

Could be a publicity stunt, but I keep staring at her and wondering what’s going on in her head. Is she spiralling and can’t control it? I know that feeling-it’s scary and exhilarating at the same time. She’s a mother, and yet, does she parent? Is she able to?

I normally can’t stand this woman, but something about her right now makes me incredibly sad. In many cultures, cutting all hair is a sign of mourning.

But hey, it could just be a brilliant PR stunt. But I can’t help but feel it’s something more.

my favorite theory is that she just wanted the curtains to match the carpet 🙂

I absolutely agree. I think she’s bipolar. I mean, she’s acting textbook manic — she was actually shaving her head in public, not like it was shaved and she just revealed it in public (like you said).

I don’t think she parents. I think she spit out those kids and has a whole support staff who raise the kids while she goes out and acts like a nutbar in public. If she suddenly disappears next, we’ll know that she’s cycled the other way.

OMG She looks like SHIT with her head shaved… Some people can pull it off. But apparently, she does NOT have a pretty face. hahaha

AND OMG LMAO @ gl2814. Best answer EVER!!!

She just had a baby eh? That can cause some serious shit to go down. She never gave her body a chance to rest between babies (what, 9 months?) that causes a hell of a toll on any body. Shit, I had 2.5 years between mine and I went a little looney there for a bit.

Pair that with being in the public eye, being so young (read: immature) and being criticized at every turn for her parenting skills (driving with baby on her lap, dropping her kiddo and I’m sure there were a few other things), hell, I think even the bestest, healthiest person would have cracked her nut by now.

    Am I surprised? No.

    Am I sad? Yes.

Its hard enough to be a mom and do everything right without being bombarded by hormones let alone 500 million people.

I’m not sure that it’s BP, your frame of reference is of course related to BP due to your own diagnosis. My frame of reference comes from other forms of depression so of course I hesitate to “go there”. I do think she is showing many serious signs of depression though. Hell, its common for some types of schizophrenics to shave their heads, go through manic periods and act oddly.

I really hope she has a great support network and people help her soon.

She looks like Justin Timberlake now.

  6. thordora February 18, 2007 at 4:16 pm #

SOMETHING is wrong with her. And PPD might be it-two kids in quick order, so no break for the body, famously famous, with people constantly critiquing her body, expectation upon expectation, coupled with a failed marriage.

If she isn’t fucked up, then I’m shocked.

  7. mad muthas February 18, 2007 at 6:55 pm #

that would explain quite a lot, wouldn’t it? also, living as a celeb is enough to anyone’s head in – even if they were sane in the first place

I think you very well could be right. Girl seems to have every possible advantage, and at least some support structure in place, yet it seems even that cannot help her.

    She looks like hell here.

  9. Judy February 18, 2007 at 11:04 pm #

I’m not convinced it’s truly mental illness, although I’m starting to lean that way.

She looks awful with the shaved head.

Maybe it’s PPD, maybe bipolar, maybe she’s just so sick of being the center of attention, but is so used to it that she needs it. It’s like a co-dependency on the media attention.

She needs help, that I’m sure of, and I hope she gets it.

This is obviously more than a PR stunt! What will Brittany do next? Her life has turned a 180. She seems crazy if you ask me. Having kids but not mothering them, flashing areas of her body that no one should see, shaving her head, getting tattoos and checking herself in and out of rehab in a 24-hour period. She is craving attention in a beyond desperate way! Will she ever return to her wholesome ways? We’ll see if she ever gets the help she needs.

I guess I’m the only one in the hemisphere who thinks it’s cute, but I’m always partial to a chick with a buzzcut. Aesthetics aside, you are probably right on the money. I’m very sad for her to have so many obvious “issues” and have to deal with them in the public eye. I’ve never met the woman and I’d like to bitch slap her for her parenting choices. That’s so twisted to me. Weird weird celeb culture we have created, and yet, I can’t help but admit that I’ve spent valuable time assessing the meaning and look of the shaved head. And while I’m gossipping, eeeeeww it sounds like her tattoos are le tacky.

  12. puddlejumper February 19, 2007 at 1:08 pm #

What I think is sad is that women (and even more so mothers) are automatically judged as being off the rails if they shave their heads or get tattoos.

The drugs and stuff, yeah, maybe calls her mothering into question (and I must add I worked in drug centre for long enough to know that there are many really great mums who happen to have drug addictions, so its not automatically making her a bad mum, it depends on whether she’s being sensible with it)

If she were a guy would we even care if she’d gotten a tattoo or a buzz cut?

The trouble is the press expect women to look feminine and she’s gone and stuck two fingers up at them.

The pictures of her crying and stuff, that gets to me, but this stuff? Hell maybe she’s just enjoying taking the press for a ride?

  13. thordora February 19, 2007 at 1:55 pm #

I agree 100% Puddle. Things would be different if she was a guy.

But what bothers me is that this is so out of character for HER. I don’t think she necessarily looks bad bald-what I see is the glint in her eye.

I am with you on this one. There is something very sad about someone with talent who seems to be spiralling downwards.

I also think that cutting hair can be two things, depending on where your head is at: an act of empowerment or an act of self-mutilation. I hope she is ok.

  15. bromac February 20, 2007 at 12:37 pm #

She has no talent. If she did, she wouldn’t need the coochie shots and shaved head. She can’t sing. She can dance, but she can not sing. She got her celebrity status on her sex.

My husband thinks she is getting pr tips from Paris–all you have to do is some crazy stunts and the paparazzi will follow you around and you can make a living that way.

I think she is dealing with some mental health issues though. For sure. I feel for her. At the same time, she chose to put herself into the limelight and you just can’t have your cake and eat it too. That is the stuff of life. I do sincerely hope she gets her shit in order.

I truly feel for the children. They are the real lost ones in this situation.

I honestly thought this was a joke when I saw it Saturday. I have gone back and forth between thinking, “hey, that’s cool, she’s shedding the pop diva image” to “I hope she’s not having a nervous breakdown.” I think what got me were the pictures of her with tears in her eyes and reports that she had been in her car crying before she went into the salon and shaved her own head.

I sincerely hope for her sake and her boys’ sak that she’s OK. Unfortunately our society thrives on watching a trainwreck in motion, but I hope that’s not the case here. Everyone deserves happiness in this crazy world.

  17. slackermommy February 20, 2007 at 3:52 pm #

This girl is definitely crying for help but because of her celebrity she’ll probably never get the help she needs. Very sad.

“Things would be different if she was a guy…” she wouldn’t have had all those hormones and chemicals blasting through her brain for 18 out of 24 months, that would be the difference. A dude goes out and shaves his head after his wife gives birth, who cares? Maybe it has something to do with how his dad treated him that one time on the fishing trip back in ’78, or maybe it was because of that time he had to play that ‘special game’ with his uncle. But the simplest answer is almost always right, and this woman gave birth to two children in about as narrow a time frame as is possible, then spent two months drinking herself stupid. If she hadn’t collapsed, maybe put out another album, went on tour and raised a mensa candidate, that would be a story.

She checked herself back into rehab Monday.

The most different thing? After she had Sean she was out all of the time with him. You rarely saw a photo of her without that boy. But this new baby? Not one since he has been born.

I think she is suffering form PPD at the least. I hope she gets it all worked out.

I feel sorry for her. Not a fan of Britney Spear’s music, or the woman herself. Something about what she is going through though, just kicks my empathy/sympathy gene in.

If I had had two small children and my marriage had fell apart, I would expect to be act a little ‘crazy’. I would think this is a normal reaction to a painful period of my life. But couple this with the media circus that is this young woman’s ‘normal’ life is, then I am not surprised she is jumping or throwing herself through ‘crazy hoops’.

I think she is tough. She has to be to have had such a successful career, but everyone has a breaking point, and she has reached a fracture.

So she shaves her head and flashes her fanny, I have done comparative shit when I was in pain and didn’t know how to deal with it.

I think she will survive this and become stronger than before.

It’s just ugly to watch. So I try not to.

Selling her fucking hair though … that’s just so … teeth-clenchingly-crass … and fuckers are buying it. How much of Britney’s hair has been sold by now do you reckon?? A helluva lot more than was shaved from her head I’ll bet, and the only way to prove you have Spears Locks is to DNA it.

Ha! That makes me pee (almost)!

    xx

I think it’s only a matter of time before Britney runs over a photographer and kills ’em. What happened to that sweet old Britney we used to know and love?
