Is it stupid week and I didn’t get the memo?

17 Nov

Ever get sick of the internet?

I think I am today. I’m so tired of the constant arguing that seems to take the place of reasonable dialogue so many places-“Oh, you don’t agree with me? Well you’re a moron, and an idiot, and here’s an extended revision to what I first said, that you didn’t just know. You’re just WRONG for stating your opinion against my own opinion.”

Sigh.

People ask for help on the internet, or go looking for answers, or looking to share their story. But why are people only comfortable in the grasp of their own opinions? Why must some writers get in a snit because other people might think their opinion is a load of hooey?Β  Why do people disregard the opinions and experiences of people who have been there, in favour of “THEY” know best. I don’t always know best, even with my own kids or my own life. I don’t always know best when I talk to people who’ve experienced loss, I don’t have the secret key, nor do they. But they have valuable experience and opinion, which is offered for me to take or ignore, not shit on.

I only have to look at the internet to understand why so many kids are considered “bratty”. Look at the legacy their parents are leaving on the internet-the land of “fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!” And I’m not talking about snarky fun,I’m talking about the mean and stupid things that individuals do to each other everyday. The whining and the crying because someone doesn’t like them, or link to them. The pissing and moaning because someone didn’t think they were very exciting. The bitching when everyone doesn’t fall down and agree with them. The sheer weight of the whining, or dear gawd you’d think they were dying.

I’m so awfully tired of it, of sloshing through all this shit to look for the occasional gem. How many people need to debate the relative merits of Fed-X before someone drops dead from the sheer idiocy of it all? How many people have to proclaim they’re right before the whole damn thing just falls in on itself?

Perhaps I’m getting old, and that’s why I’m so bloody sick of seeing the same senseless arguments everywhere. People aren’t willing to see the other side of anything, aren’t willing to concede that sometimes, someone else might be right, or at the very least have an opinion worth hearing, a point worth taking into consideration. What are they teaching their children? How are they putting forth the best possible example for how to BE as an adult human being? Are these the same people who never get out of the way in stores, convinced that they are more important? Are these the same brain surgeons who decide that they should compete with the city bus for road supremacy?

I’m tired of people being stupid mean. I can hack, and oftimes enjoy smart mean. But stupid mean, borne from allegiance to one’s own opinion, regardless of the cost, is such a waste of air.

    Yup.

I’m sick of it now actually. Both blogging and the two bulliten boards I check occasionally.

    “Mean people suck”.

Have you noticed that a lot of the “well your opinion is stupid and here’s why” people are anonymous? I think part of the problem behind this phenomenon is that people feel safe attacking when they don’t have to be held accountable for what they say.

And people don’t know what it is to have an argument or an intelligent discussion. There’s only contradiction & name-calling.

I think b/c of this, people are afraid to give an opinion when it contradicts the mainstream or is another way of looking at the topic (ex: not an opposing view but a different take). I think people are getting tired of the “with us or against us” mentality. I know I am.

I disagreed with you once. What was that about?

    Can’t remember. Then again, you aren’t a cunt. πŸ™‚

BB is the main offender this week….but many other places as well…

Now that I think about it, I think Thor and I had words once on BB. I cannot remember what it was in reference too though.

  6. Eden November 17, 2006 at 6:43 pm #

Well there’s the difference. You’re intelligent women with actual opinions. You have respect for each other and can disagree on some points, agree on others, and still be friends.

    I’m not a cunt? Since when? πŸ˜‰

  7. thordora November 17, 2006 at 7:40 pm #

I remember having the argument with Karrie, but I don’t remember why.

You doing the Shape of a Mother thing let me forgive you though. πŸ™‚

I totally think you’re a cunt, Eden. It’s why I like you so much πŸ˜‰ Thordora is a cunt too. I’ve disagreed with both of you on occasion, and the world didn’t end.

BB seems to have imported an assload of stupid recently. I saw you trainwrecked them Eden. Good job!

    Twats all.

Hey! That’s what you should name the fluff ball! Fussy Part in honor of us!

Eden’s totally right. Most of the troublemakers are anonymous nadbags that don’t even give a flip what they’re arguing about. The minute someone acknowledges their choadishness their day is made.

I totally agree. I’m going to log off now and find something more moderate and soothing, like AM talk radio and Fox News…

  12. thordora November 18, 2006 at 8:24 am #

Good thing I rarely watch TV Jason, or I’d turn into a Luddite. πŸ˜›

All this “cunting” makes me want to reestablish the Fresno State Women’s art Cuntleaders. I guess the guy counterpart would be “Know how I know you’re gay?”

Seriously, it seems with more information out there, intolerance has increased rather than decreased. More knowledge has made others a tad more set in their ways than normal.

I wonder…if a tree falls in the forest and an anonymous commenter was the only one to hear it, did it really make a sound? 😎

A-frickin’-men. I don’t even know why I go back to BB anymore since all it does is piss me off. So much crazy in one place, and ostensibly all raising children. Between the shoddy reasoning and the lack of reasoning, I’m pretty depressed by the whole thing.

And hurrah for cunts! Any idiot can have an opinion; it takes a cunt to defend hers with style! I know I disagreed with Thor on something but I don’t remember what either. I don’t recall anyone having to take her keyboard and go home.

  15. Eden November 18, 2006 at 10:14 pm #

I just wanted to say the I love “nadbag.” I’m totally swiping that (like the cunt I am).

  16. thordora November 18, 2006 at 10:16 pm #

You should go visit Nicole as a reward for stealing nadbag. We heart Nicole.

    Cunt. πŸ˜›
